Magnify.add is a simple addition that I wrote that allows a user to type in a specific magnification percentage for viewing a Macintosh PageMaker 5.0 or 4.2 page or object. Magnify.add is a plug in module for use with PageMaker 5.0 or 4.2.
Where to put it to make it work?
Put the Magnify addition in the additions folder in the Aldus folder. Magnify.add was designed specifically for PageMaker 5.0, to take advantage of its ability to view objects at any magnification up to 800%. Magnify add will also work with PM 4.2, but not with any earlier version of PageMaker.
How to use it?
After installing the addition, launch PageMaker and then select the "Utilities" menu. Select "Aldus Additions" and then drag down to the name "MagnifyÉ" A dialog will pop up that tells you what the current view is and allows you to enter a new view percentage. That's it. That's all. That's simple.
Are there any problems to expect?
Not really, but I am a testing team of just one, so take that opinion with a very large grain of salt. I have noticed that the addition will inaccurately report the view percentage at very high resolutions (its usually off by -+10%). This problem is related to the monitor being used and the way that PM reports its current resolution based on that monitor, so there wasn't a whole lot I could do to change the situation.
I have had one confirmed report of an init conflict causing the addition to quit, so if there is a problem, turn off your extensions first.
Why did I do this?
This is my first shot a writing an addition. It was fun. It is totally free, if you like it, use it and abuse it to your hearts content.
